Michael G. Abrate has been a life-long resident of Sacramento, California.

He attended Jesuit High School in Carmichael, CA where he was a member of the tennis team.

After high school he attended and graduated from California State University Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. While attending college he worked part-time at Capitol Steel Company, a construction supply company located in Sacramento, CA.

After graduating from California State University Sacramento, he attended the University of the Pacific, Mcgeorge School of Law, where he graduated with great distinction and as a member of the Order of the COIF. In each year at McGeorge, he was recognized as a Dean’s Honor list member and Traynor’s Society Honor List member.


While attending Mcgeorge School of Law, he interned at the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office in the misdemeanor and Traffic Units

He also interned at the Mcgeorge School of Law Indigent Legal Center.

After passing the California state bar examination, he was hired by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office as a Deputy District Attorney. He worked at the Sacramento County District Attorney’s office as a Deputy District Attorney for over 6 years before leaving the District Attorney’s Office in 2014 to start the Abrate & Olsen Law Group.

While at the District Attorney’s Office, he worked in the Misdemeanor, Juvenile, Felony, and Superior Court Review Units

He has conducted 35 solo jury trials in cases such as narcotic sales, robbery, carjacking, theft, assault, burglary, and attempted murder.

He has handled over 1,000 felony and misdemeanor criminal cases

He has trained other attorneys on how to conduct Driving Under the Influence (DUI) trials

He supervised Interns and Legal Research Assistants with legal writing, arguing motions, and bench trials.

He conducted over 100 bench trials for Misdemeanor and Infraction traffic violations.

He has won approximately 95% of the cases he has tried in front of a jury.
